Winner's Syndrome

Some leaders can't quit the habit of winning every single discussion. That's how they have made it to the leadership role — being assertive and managing to prove that their opinion is always better than the opinions of the others. Often - not hesitating to use some dirty little tricks to frame the topic of every conversation in their favor.
Winner's Syndrome - Teamleadsky
How does this anti-pattern impact the team?
  • Impact
There is no safe space for a dialog. The leader is the only person who is allowed to come up with new ideas. A large share of the salaries of the other team members is in fact paid in vain. Their engagement and drive are suppressed and the ability of the team to Innovate is limited to the capacity of the leader.
How can you spot this anti-pattern?
  • Signals
    • "We have tried to brainstorm with the team a few times, but they never suggested anything useful."
    • "They have never talked to me about this issue!"

These signals are the "red flags", that indicate it is worth taking a closer look to check whether the anti-pattern is present.
